“Heloisa Corrêa’s language is color. In a contemporary diction, she questions what Paul Cézanne once expressed: ‘For the painter, only colors are true.’ For Heloisa, painting is a constant dialogue with the image; one color calls for the next, and a dynamic of its own develops in the process of image creation, without the artist, as she puts it, losing ‘control over the image.’ Thus, her non-representational painting has much more to do with rational control than with the gestural and emotional eruptions that we so readily interpret into such pictorial worlds. The artist herself also sees these paintings as a metaphor for life, which constantly moves between the poles of chaos and order.

Anyone who has followed Heloisa Corrêa’s artistic development will notice that her most recent paintings are less ‘coloristic,’ meaning they no longer use the entire spectrum of saturated primary colors. Instead, many passages appear even more nuanced. The deliberately narrower palette and the renunciation of hues can, on the one hand, This can be interpreted as a heightened sensitivity to the subtle gradations of color. The artist herself pragmatically interprets it as a response to her new and simultaneously homeland, which is so much more colorful and bright than Europe.
